Description

WisNode Tag is a compact LoRaWAN® GPS tracking device with GNSS, BLE, and a built-in rechargeable battery. It runs TrackIT firmware and can be configured and managed through the TrackIT app for iOS and Android.

When used with RAK WisGate Edge gateways and WisGateOS, WisNode Tag supports map-based tracking, geofencing, SOS alerts, and movement notifications. It can also be configured for third-party LoRaWAN networks, where the TrackIT app is used as a device configuration tool.

NOTE

WisNode Tag currently supports LoRaWAN mode. P2P mode is planned. Do not use WisMesh Tag firmware or Meshtastic guides with this device.

Hardware

The hardware specification covers interfacing and standard values for RF, electrical, and environmental requirements of the WisNode Tag.

Hardware Interface

WisNode Tag comes fully assembled with a built-in rechargeable 1000 mAh Li-ion battery. It provides a multi-function front button, LED indicators, and a 4-pin magnetic connector for charging and USB access.

NOTE

The enclosure cannot be opened without damaging the device.
It is recommended to fully charge the device before first use.

LED Indicators

WisNode Tag has three LED indicators for device status.

LED	Description
🔴 RED LED	Charging indicator. It lights up when the USB charging cable is connected. The device can be charged even if it is switched off.
🟢 GREEN LED	Device status indicator. It may indicate power, activity, or firmware mode depending on the TrackIT firmware state. Solid: Powered on Breathing: BLE DFU mode Blinking: MCU activity
🔵 BLUE LED	Message or notification indicator. It may light up when a message or event is received. When data is received, the blue LED blinks rapidly for approximately 0.5 seconds and then remains solid.

Front Button

The round front button is positioned on the top of the device and is controlled by the TrackIT firmware. Its behavior depends on the press pattern and device state.

Action	Function
Single press	Wake up the device from sleep mode.
Triple press	Trigger SOS.
Triple press again after SOS is triggered	Cancel SOS.
Long press	Power on or power off the device, depending on the current device state.

Reset Button

The reset button is located at the bottom of the device and is used for device reset or firmware-related maintenance.

Action	Function
Single press	Reset the device.
Double press	Enter DFU mode, if supported by the firmware.

Charging and USB Connector

The 4-pin magnetic connector is used to charge the device and provide USB access for firmware maintenance or debugging.

Use a 5 V USB charger to recharge the battery. A matching magnetic USB charging cable is included in the package.

Antenna

The WisNode Tag has built-in LoRa, BLE, and GNSS antennas.
